Public holidays, Victory Day, and Midsummer in Estonia

Public holidays in Estonia are established by the Public Holidays and Days of National Importance Act. The national holiday is Independence Day on 24 February, commemorating the 1918 declaration of the Republic. The calendar also observes Victory Day on 23 June (commemorating the 1919 Battle of Võnnu) and Midsummer Day (Jaanipäev) on 24 June, celebrated with nationwide bonfires, alongside the Restoration of Independence Day on 20 August.
The academic year is organised into five study periods separated by holiday breaks, determined by ministerial decree. School terms apply uniformly across the country, with summer holidays running from mid-June to August.
