When to take leave in Hungary

What one, two or three days of leave get you:

National holidays and the school year in Hungary

Hungary's national days commemorate the 1848 Revolution (15 March), State Foundation Day honouring Saint Stephen (20 August), and the 1956 Revolution (23 October). Parliament established this calendar in 1991, replacing communist-era commemorations and designating 20 August as the main state holiday. Good Friday became a public holiday in 2017.

The school year is set annually by a central ministerial decree, applying equally to state, church, and private schools nationwide. Holiday and exam dates are identical across the country, with individual schools deciding only a few discretionary days off.
