Public and school holidays in Czechia

Czechia has the same public holidays everywhere, but every district sets its own school terms. Pick one to see its dates, the weekdays they fall on, and the bridge days around them.

Public holidays in Czechia are established by national statute. School term dates are set centrally by ministerial decree, with the one-week spring break (jarní prázdniny) rotating annually across six groups of districts.

Public holidays and rotating spring breaks in Czechia

Czech public holidays reflect key milestones in the country's national and cultural history. Following the political changes of 1989, historical observances such as Saints Cyril and Methodius Day (5 July), Jan Hus Day (6 July), and St Wenceslas Day (28 September) were restored, followed by Good Friday (enacted in 2015, observed since 2016). 1 January marks both New Year's Day and the Restoration Day of the Independent Czech State.

The school calendar is determined nationally by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. To balance traffic and accommodation demand in mountain regions, the one-week spring break (jarní prázdniny) is staggered across six groups of districts over February and March, rotating by one week each academic year.
