Public holidays and school calendar coordination in Berlin

Berlin is one of two German federal states to observe International Women's Day (Frauentag, 8 March) as a statutory public holiday. In 2020 and 2025, Berlin also marked 8 May (Day of Liberation from National Socialism) as a one-time public holiday on major round anniversaries.

The school holiday calendar is established by the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family, coordinated closely with surrounding Brandenburg.
