Memorial days, religious observances, and school calendar in Bremen

Bremen's holiday law recognises 8 May (Liberation from National Socialism) as an official state memorial day, granting employees and apprentices the opportunity to attend commemorative events where operational needs permit. The statute also formally recognises Jewish, Islamic, and Alevi holidays, excusing pupils of those faiths from lessons on their religious feast days.

Flexible school holidays (bewegliche Ferientage) are set uniformly by each school's conference before the academic year, with guidelines requiring schools to avoid isolated teaching days between weekends and holidays.
