Religious feast days and spring break schedule in Hamburg

Hamburg's statutory agreements with its Islamic associations and Alevi community grant their religious feast days the same legal protections as traditional church holidays: employees and civil servants may attend religious services, and pupils are excused from school upon request.

School terms in Hamburg are determined directly by the state education authority rather than individual schools. Uniquely, Hamburg schedules a fixed two-week spring break (Frühjahrsferien) in early March, completely independent of the date of Easter. Rosenmontag is a normal working and school day.
