Day of Repentance and Prayer and regional holiday rules in Saxony

Corpus Christi (Fronleichnam) is a statutory public holiday in Saxony only within designated predominantly Catholic municipalities in the Bautzen, Kamenz, and Hoyerswerda districts (the traditional Sorbian settlement area). In other areas, religious feast days grant employees and pupils the right to take time off to attend church services.

Saxony is the only German state where the Day of Repentance and Prayer (Buß- und Bettag in November) remains a full statewide statutory public holiday, funded by a slightly higher employee contribution to statutory care insurance.
