Public and school holidays in Poland

Poland has the same public holidays everywhere, but every voivodship sets its own school terms. Pick one to see its dates, the weekdays they fall on, and the bridge days around them.

Public holidays in Poland are established by statutory law. The Minister of Education sets school term dates, staggering the two-week winter break (ferie zimowe) across four groups of voivodeships.

Holidays on Saturday give an extra day off; holidays on Sunday do not.

Public holidays and winter break schedules in Poland

Public holidays in Poland are governed by the 1951 Days of Rest Act. Following the democratic transition in 1989, historical national holidays were restored, including 3 May Constitution Day and National Independence Day (11 November), while Epiphany (6 January) was reinstated in 2011. Under the Labour Code, when a public holiday falls on a Saturday, employees are legally entitled to an additional day off scheduled by their employer.

The school calendar is coordinated centrally by the Ministry of National Education. To balance tourist and transport capacity, the two-week winter break (ferie zimowe) is staggered across four groups of voivodeships between mid-January and late February, rotating on an annual cycle, while summer holidays are unified through July and August.
