Warsaw Uprising Hour W and Kurpie Easter palms

In Mazovia, 1 August marks the solemn commemoration of the 1944 Warsaw Uprising. At precisely 17:00 ('W-Hour'), sirens sound across Warsaw and Mazovian towns as all traffic and pedestrians halt for a full minute of silent tribute to the insurgent heroes.

In the northern Kurpie region (Łyse), Palm Sunday is celebrated with towering handcrafted Easter palms of paper flowers and greenery. The two-week winter break is scheduled by the Ministry of National Education.
