Public and school holidays in Romania

Romania has the same public holidays everywhere, but every county sets its own school terms. Pick one to see its dates, the weekdays they fall on, and the bridge days around them.

Statutory public holidays in Romania are established by the Labour Code. The Ministry of Education structures the school year into five learning modules, with the one-week February ski holiday set individually by each county school inspectorate.

Public holidays and county ski vacations in Romania

Public holidays in Romania are governed by the Labour Code (Codul muncii), combining national commemorations — such as the Union of the Romanian Principalities (24 January) and Great Union Day (1 December) — with religious feasts of the Christian calendar, including Orthodox Easter and Pentecost, alongside Epiphany and Saint John the Baptist (6–7 January).

The school year is organised nationally into five learning modules separated by five vacation periods. While the dates for autumn, winter, spring, and summer breaks are uniform across the country, each county school inspectorate (and Bucharest) independently selects the timing of the one-week February ski break (vacanța de schi) across a three-week window.
