Public holidays, religious bayrams, and school terms in Turkey

Turkey's public holidays are established by national statute, combining fixed national days, Republic Day, and two multi-day religious festivals whose dates are calculated and published years in advance by the Diyanet.

Public holidays in Turkey are established by Law No. 2429 on National Holidays and General Holidays, combining national secular milestones with the two major Islamic religious festivals (bayrams). National observances include National Sovereignty and Children's Day (23 April), Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day (19 May), Victory Day (30 August), and Republic Day (29 October). The dates of Ramadan Bayram (Ramazan Bayramı) and the Feast of the Sacrifice (Kurban Bayramı) are fixed in advance by astronomical calculation and published by the Diyanet.

The school calendar is determined nationally by the Ministry of National Education (MEB). The academic year is divided into two semesters with mid-term breaks in November and April and a two-week winter break (yarıyıl tatili) in January and February.
