Public and school holidays in France
France has 11 public holidays everywhere. The rest change from one region to the next, and so do the school terms. Pick one to see its dates, the weekdays they fall on, and the bridge days around them.
Statutory public holidays are defined in the French Labour Code. School calendars are set by the Ministry of Education, dividing the year into five teaching periods separated by four breaks, with winter and spring holidays staggered across three zones (A, B, and C).

Public holidays and school vacation zones in France
Public holidays in France are established by the Labour Code and apply uniformly across mainland departments. In Alsace and the Moselle department (Grand Est), local statute (droit local) grants two additional public holidays — Good Friday and Saint Stephen's Day (26 December) — reflecting historic concordat arrangements preserved when the territories returned to France in 1918. Most of France's overseas departments and territories celebrate an additional public holiday commemorating the abolition of slavery (such as 27 May in Guadeloupe, 22 May in Martinique, and 20 December in Réunion).
School calendars for metropolitan France are divided into three geographic zones (A, B, and C) to stagger winter and spring vacations, balancing traffic and tourism across mountain ski regions. Summer, autumn (Toussaint), and Christmas holidays are unified nationwide.
