Madeira Day, Primeira Oitava, and Flower Festival

Madeira celebrates the Day of the Autonomous Region of Madeira on 1 July, commemorating its political-administrative autonomy granted in the 1976 Constitution. On 26 December, the region observes the Primeira Oitava as an official regional public holiday.

In December, traditional dawn masses (Missas do Parto) are held, while spring brings the Flower Festival (Festa da Flor) to the streets of Funchal. School term dates are established by the Regional Secretariat of Education, Science, and Technology.
