Public and school holidays in Slovakia

Slovakia has the same public holidays everywhere, but every region sets its own school terms. Pick one to see its dates, the weekdays they fall on, and the bridge days around them.

Public holidays in Slovakia are established by the National Council under Act No. 241/1993, comprising state holidays and days of rest. School calendars are set centrally by the Ministry of Education, with spring breaks rotating across three regional groups.

State holidays and rotating spring breaks in Slovakia

Slovakia's public holidays are defined by Act No. 241/1993, which distinguishes state holidays commemorating national history (such as the Day of the Slovak National Uprising on 29 August and Constitution Day on 1 September) from religious and civic days of rest. The calendar combines national commemorations with traditional Christian feasts, designating Epiphany (6 January) as an official holiday.

School term dates are determined centrally by the Ministry of Education. The one-week spring break (jarné prázdniny) is staggered across three regional groups (Western, Central, and Eastern Slovakia) over consecutive weeks in February and March, rotating annually to manage holiday traffic.
