Košice Peace Marathon, City Days, and Tokaj wine region

The Košice Region serves as the economic and cultural heart of Eastern Slovakia. In early May, the city of Košice celebrates the Košice City Days (Dni mesta Košice), commemorating the historic granting of Europe's first municipal coat of arms by King Louis I in 1369. On the first Sunday of October, the city stages the Košice Peace Marathon (Medzinárodný maratón mieru), founded in 1924 as the oldest marathon in Europe. The southeast of the region is home to the historic Tokaj wine region.
