Trnava Novena, historic fairs, and Little Rome traditions

The Trnava Region is known as "Slovakia's Little Rome" (Slovenský Rím) for its collection of historic churches. In mid-November, the Basilica of Saint Nicholas hosts the solemn Trnava Novena (Trnavská novéna) dedicated to the Virgin Mary of Trnava. In September, the city hosts the Traditional Trnava Fair (Tradičný trnavský jarmok), one of Slovakia's oldest markets, while Skalica in the north is celebrated for its historic Skalický trdelník pastry.

School spring breaks are part of the Western Slovakia group (alongside Bratislava and Nitra), rotating annually.
