Martinitag and semester break in Burgenland

The patron saint of Burgenland is Saint Martin of Tours (Martinitag, 11 November), who was born in Roman Pannonia near the modern border. On this day, schools across Burgenland are closed and state government offices are shut. The feast is celebrated throughout the region with lantern processions and traditional roast goose (Martinigansl).

The one-week February semester break is scheduled in the second week of February under the federal school calendar.
