Public and school holidays in Belgium

Belgium has the same public holidays everywhere, but every community sets its own school terms. Pick one to see its dates, the weekdays they fall on, and the bridge days around them.

Sunday holidays are replaced by a working day off, agreed company by company.

Public holidays and community school calendars in Belgium

Public holidays in Belgium are established by federal labour law and apply uniformly across the country, combining national secular observances with Christian feast days. When a public holiday falls on a weekend, employees are entitled to a replacement day off during the same calendar year, agreed at the sector or company level.
Education is fully devolved to the three linguistic communities (Flemish, French, and German-speaking). In 2022, the French Community reformed its school calendar to follow a regular rhythm of seven weeks of instruction alternating with two weeks of holiday, creating different term dates from Flanders and the German-speaking Community.
