Holidays and Maienzug in Aargau

In Aargau, public holidays reflect its confessional geography: while major Christian observances and Swiss National Day are kept canton-wide, Catholic feast days such as Corpus Christi, Assumption, and Immaculate Conception are statutory public holidays exclusively in traditionally Catholic municipalities (such as in the Freiamt and Baden districts), remaining regular workdays in Reformed districts (such as Aarau).

School calendars are regulated by the cantonal education department. In Aarau, the traditional Maienzug festival is celebrated on the first Friday of July as a major school and civic celebration.
