Holidays and Saint Nicholas in Fribourg

In the bilingual Canton of Fribourg, public holidays follow confessional heritage: Catholic feast days are statutory holidays in Catholic parishes, while the Reformed Lake District (Murten/Morat) observes fewer church festivals.

In the city of Fribourg, the historic celebration of patron Saint Nicholas takes place on the first Saturday of December. School calendars are established by the Directorate of Education and Cultural Affairs.
