Näfelser Fahrt and Landsgemeinde in Glarus

In the Canton of Glarus, the Näfelser Fahrt on the first Thursday of April is an official statutory cantonal holiday: it commemorates the 1388 Battle of Näfels, in which Glarner confederates defeated the Habsburg army, marked by a solemn pilgrimage procession.
On the first Sunday of May, the historic Landsgemeinde meets on the Zaunplatz in Glarus as the sovereign open-air voting assembly. School calendars are determined by the cantonal Department of Education and Culture.
