When to take leave in Grisons

What one, two or three days of leave get you:

Valley traditions and Chalandamarz in Graubünden

In the trilingual Canton of Graubünden (German, Romansh, Italian), holiday schedules reflect municipal and valley traditions: Catholic regions (such as Surselva and Mesolcina) observe Corpus Christi, Assumption, and Immaculate Conception, while Reformed valleys (Engadin, Prättigau) follow the Protestant calendar.

In the Romansh-speaking Engadin, children celebrate the ancient spring bell-ringing festival Chalandamarz on 1 March. School terms are regulated by the Department of Education, Culture, and Environmental Protection.
