Holidays and Lucerne Carnival

In the Catholic Canton of Lucerne, public holidays follow its church heritage, with traditional Catholic feasts equated with Sundays.

The famous Lucerne Carnival (Luzerner Fasnacht) begins on Schmutziger Donnerstag at 05:00 with the arrival of Bruder Fritschi on Kapellplatz, with widespread school and business closures. School calendars are coordinated by the Cantonal Department of Education.
