Bruderklausenfest and holidays in Obwalden

The Canton of Obwalden celebrates the Bruderklausenfest on 25 September as an official cantonal public holiday in honour of Saint Nicholas of Flüe (Bruder Klaus), patron saint of Switzerland and Obwalden who mediated the Stanser Verkommnis in 1481.

As a Catholic founding canton, church solemnities are observed as public holidays. School terms are determined by the Department of Education and Culture.
