Lundi du Jeûne and Désalpe in Vaud

Following its Reformed tradition, the Canton of Vaud uniquely observes the Lundi du Jeûne fédéral (the Monday following the Federal Fast Sunday in September) as an official statutory public holiday, while Catholic feast days are regular workdays.
In autumn, the traditional Désalpe (alpine cattle descent) is celebrated with decorated herds in the Vaud Alps and Jura (such as in Saint-Cergue). School calendars are determined by the Department of Education, Youth, and Culture.
