Perdonanza Celestiniana and Abruzzo patron saints

In Abruzzo, municipal calendars are shaped by local patron saint days across its provincial capitals: Pescara observes San Cetteo (10 October), Chieti marks San Giustino (11 May), and Teramo celebrates San Berardo (19 December). In L'Aquila, the pre-eminent civic event is the Perdonanza Celestiniana (28–29 August), the historic annual jubilee established in 1294 by Pope Celestine V in his papal bull Inter sanctorum at the Basilica of Collemaggio.
School calendars are deliberated annually by the regional government of Abruzzo, establishing term dates between September and June while providing for local school closures on municipal patronal feasts.
