Festa della Lombardia and Sant'Ambrogio bridge in Milan

Lombardy celebrates the Festa della Lombardia on 29 May (Regional Law no. 15/2013), commemorating the victory of the Lombard League at the Battle of Legnano in 1176. In Milan, the feast of patron Saint Ambrose (Sant'Ambrogio) on 7 December — opening day of the season at Teatro alla Scala — directly precedes the national Immaculate Conception holiday (8 December), creating the traditional Milanese bridge.
The school calendar is established by the Region of Lombardy, setting term schedules from September to June with autonomy for municipal patron saint closures.
