Festa della Lombardia and Sant'Ambrogio bridge in Milan

Lombardy celebrates the Festa della Lombardia on 29 May (Regional Law no. 15/2013), commemorating the victory of the Lombard League at the Battle of Legnano in 1176. In Milan, the feast of patron Saint Ambrose (Sant'Ambrogio) on 7 December — opening day of the season at Teatro alla Scala — directly precedes the national Immaculate Conception holiday (8 December), creating the traditional Milanese bridge.
