San Nicola festival in Bari and Apulian patron saints

In Apulia, local civic holidays reflect maritime and religious heritage. In Bari, the central celebration is the Feast of Saint Nicholas (7–9 May), commemorating the 1087 translation of the saint's relics from Myra with a historic flotilla parade in the Adriatic and a municipal public holiday on 8 May. Taranto celebrates San Cataldo (10 May) and Lecce honours Sant'Oronzo (26 August).
The school calendar is adopted by the regional government of Apulia, permitting schools to suspend lessons for their municipality's patron saint's day.
