Madonna della Consolazione and Calabrian patron saints

In Calabria, patronal feasts dictate municipal closures across its provincial capitals. Reggio Calabria celebrates the Madonna della Consolazione on the second Saturday of September with the procession of the massive Vara frame, followed by a concluding procession on the following Tuesday. Catanzaro celebrates San Vitaliano (16 July) and Cosenza honours the Madonna del Pilerio (12 February).
The regional school calendar is set by the Region of Calabria, scheduling breaks for Christmas, Easter, and Carnival alongside municipal patron saint days.
