Festa della Toscana, Calcio Storico, and Palio of Siena

Tuscany celebrates the Festa della Toscana on 30 November (Regional Law no. 47/2000), commemorating 30 November 1786 when Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo promulgated the criminal code reform making the Grand Duchy of Tuscany the first sovereign state in the world to abolish capital punishment and torture. Florence celebrates San Giovanni Battista on 24 June with the Calcio Storico final in Piazza Santa Croce, while Siena runs its historic Palio on 2 July and 16 August.
