Festa dei Ceri in Gubbio and Saint Francis of Assisi

In Umbria, civic and religious traditions shape the calendar. In Gubbio, the Festa dei Ceri is held on 15 May, on the eve of patron Saint Ubaldo (16 May), carrying three massive wooden candle towers up Mount Ingino in one of Italy's oldest continuous folkloric races. Perugia celebrates San Costanzo (29 January) and San Lorenzo (10 August), while Assisi honours Saint Francis on 4 October (also patron saint of Italy).
