La Diada, Sant Jordi, and Nit de Sant Joan

Catalonia celebrates the National Day of Catalonia (La Diada) on 11 September, commemorating the 1714 fall of Barcelona during the War of the Spanish Succession with civic rallies and cultural tributes.

Sant Jordi (23 April) is the day of the book and the rose. The festival of Sant Joan is celebrated on the eve of 24 June with the arrival of the Canigó Flame and community bonfires. School holiday schedules are determined by the Education Department of the Generalitat.
