Galicia Day, Saint James the Apostle, and Letras Galegas

The National Day of Galicia (25 July) celebrates the Feast of Saint James the Apostle (Santiago Apóstol), patron saint of Galicia and Spain, with solemn ceremonies at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. Another fundamental cultural celebration is the Galician Literature Day (Día das Letras Galegas, 17 May), honouring the Galician language and authors.

The regional education ministry of the Xunta de Galicia regulates the school calendar, supporting bilingual education in Galician and Spanish and accommodating municipal holidays.
